Hi everyone,
My name is Sujan Maskey and I am form Nepal. This is my fourth year in JC and hopefully last semester. I am doing major in Business Administration with finance as my major but recently I have changed my mind and decided to take accounting as my major and obtain CPA degree. I am 27 year old and not working at all that makes my parents my sponsor. As I am an average student and English is my second language I find little difficulties in my studies. I have to go through study material at least two times to understand it properly. I have a bad habit of doing things at the last moment which made me drop from this class last semester; I was not able to submit this introduction assignment in time which made me “no show”. This time I will work hard to change my habit and try my best to complete the assignments in time.
I was planning to take my English classes in University but what I found out is, it is required to complete my ENG 1Acourse to get to university. So, I am planning to take ENG 100 this semester and take 1A in summer and got to university this fall. I am anxious to finish my studies as soon as possible because it’s getting late for me to become independent form my parents, I cannot expect my parents help for long, I have to do things on my own.
Living in United States is completely different experience for me. At first when I did not have a ride and was not acquainted with the places, it was difficult for me to adjust but now I am getting use to. Living in US has taught me a lot. The most important thing I have learnt is to become independent which is uncommon in Nepalese society. Most of the young Nepalese are reliant on their parents. I want to discontinue this trend by finishing my studies and going back to Nepal and getting a better job and securing my future. Although its little late but it’s never too late.
Hello Sujan!
ReplyDeleteI completely know how you feel. I am going to be 25 years old this summer and I am still living with my parents. I do work full time and just began to go to school again after taking 4 years off. I hope to finish my studies soon as well and move on to become independant instead of relying on my parents to provide with food and shelter. I do wish you much luck this semester and you are more than welcome to contact me if you like if you do need assistance.

Hi Sujan,
ReplyDeleteCompleting English 100 and English 1A will help prepare you for the reading and writing you'll do after transferring. What college are you planning to attend?
Moving to a new country is not easy. I'm sure it was difficult to leave home, and even more difficult to adjust to living in the U.S.
Your point about being reliant on one's parent's is an interesting point. I think one's perception of the role parents should play in caring for their adult children depends on socioeconomic status and culture. This will be an interesting point to consider when we move into some of the readings for our class.
I'm looking forward to working with you this semester.
Take care,
Lauren
Hi Sujan,
ReplyDeleteIt is really cool that you are from a different country. That has always been a goal of mine to live in another country for a while, ideally countries in Asia like Japan. Know any places I should and shouldn't go in Asia?
As for taking this english class in order to transfer to a University, we are both on the same path. I would love to transfer by next year to San Diego and have a career path too.
Best of luck to you in becoming independent!
Haruki
Well I wish you great luck on your journey but I doubt you need it because you sound very confident and well spoken. I want to transfer as well there are some culinary schools in southern California that I have been interested in. I someday wish to travel to Nepal I heard its a amazing beautiful place and I love to travel. Adjusting to new situations can be overwhelming sometimes whether it be a new country or a new school so if you need advice or help don't be shy. I'm looking forward to hear back from you.
